1:00 p.m.: The “Rules” of the Publishing Game: The Times They Are A-Changin’

Barry Eisler in conversation with Keith Raffel: traditional publishing versus self-publishing and more.

2:30 p.m.: Face-off: Thriller versus Mysteries. (What’s the Difference and Which Is Better?)

Mystery writers Catriona McPherson and Cara Black will face off against thriller writers Alan Jacobson and Sheldon Siegel in crime fiction’s version of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. This panel will be refereed by Laurie R. King.

4:00 p.m.: Down and Dirty Reviews

Are you writing your first mystery or a thriller? Bring the first page and we’ll throw them in a hat. We’ll pluck out as many as we have time for, and you’ll get expert commentary from Judy Greber (aka Gillian Roberts), John Billheimer, and Terry Shames.

5:00 p.m.: Socializing

All the authors will be around talking about writing and their books. They probably can even be convinced to sign a copy of one of their brilliant novels for you!

Special bonus: If you are an independently published author, contact us - angelam@keplers.com - and (until space runs out) we will arrange for you to have a table where you can sell your books.

And finally, announcing the Kepler's Crime Fiction Prize

For an unpublished crime fiction novel by an unpublished (fiction) author. The story must have a mystery, thriller, or suspense element.

Submit the first 25 pages to angelam@keplers.com (please put Kepler's Crime Fiction Prize in the subject line) or via mail to
Angela Mann, Kepler's Books, 1010 El Camino Real, Menlo Park CA 94025. Judging will be done by Kepler's staff. The winner will have his/her book - once published - featured in the window of the store for at least a week.
