Description

The book has the author's professional views of the development of the worldwide automotive industries and their current emphasis on self and driverless cars and trucks. He has written about the 17 years' experience working for little known Nissan Motors USA that imported Datsun cars and trucks. He helped to develop a strong Datsun dealer network that during his tenure outsold all other imports in the Western United States. He shared his stories while he was one of the few dedicated pioneering employees in the West who helped initiate policies and procedures that eventually led to the success of Nissan that we know of today.

About the Author

Gordon Whitby is a native of England and Northern Ireland, who emigrated to the United States of America on March 25, 1952. He made the Los Angeles area of California his home, and as such he has witnessed the many changes that have taken place in the country in 60 years, some good, and some not so good. He has accomplished so much in his adopted country. He is proud of his involvement and success in road racing where he prepared race cars for some of the world's best race drivers (1952-1967) like world-renowned drivers like Ken Miles, Carroll Shelby, Phil Hill, Stirling Moss, Donald Healey, and Captain George Eyston. In the sixteen years with British Motor Corporation (BMC), Gordon was the US technical advisor to Chief Engineer Syd Enever of the MG division. He also participated in all BMC's record high speed and endurance runs at Utah's Bonneville Salt Flats in 1965, 1957, and 1959. Gordon moved to Nissan Motor, USA in July 1967 where he was rapidly promoted to Director Dealer Sales, then Director Dealer Support for entire USA. In 1982, he was appointed to the Board of Trustees, University of La Verne, then in August 1984 Gordon was made Vice President of Business and Finance of the University of La Verne. The university had been operating in the red for six years when he took over. Gordon is especially proud of what was accomplished at the University of La Verne when he used his managerial skills to guide, with help from his dedicated staff, took a failing institution from near bankruptcy to one of fiscal responsibility. On retirement Gordon wrote a remarkable book by one of the few people capable of chronicling what happened with painstaking detail and insight titled, "Earning the American Dream" is a truly fascinating documentary of what was right at the British Motor Corporation and what was tragically wrong that caused its demise. His book "Regaining Our Sovereignty: From all those in Washington, DC who have failed the people of the United States of America" presents the author's views on current interests of the nation's dissatisfaction with bureaucracy.
