Zeitoun - Kepler's Staff Review

This book should be required reading for every American adult. It is the story of Abdulrahman Zeitoun, a Syrian American Muslim man, an entrepreneur who had built up a very successful painting and contracting business in New Orleans. He owned his own home and several rental properties and was continuously refurbishing historic homes in the New Orleans area.

On the eve of hurricane Katrina, he sent his wife and four children away while he remained guarding their home and rental properties as well as houses he was restoring. He spent weeks during the storm’s aftermath in an old second-hand canoe rescuing both people and animals. When he was thrown in prison, his family had no idea if he was dead or alive. His incarceration was a post 9/11 thing and was awful.  Now a free man, Zeitoun has since set up a foundation benefitting many post-Katrina organizations (listed at the back of the book). All proceeds go to this foundation.
