In You or Someone Like You, first-time novelist Chandler Burr revives a moribund narrative premise: the married man’s mid-life crisis. Except Burr’s witty, literate version is more about the wife (Anne) than the husband (Howard). And the object of Howards’ burgeoning lust isn’t a blond trophy or a European sports car; it’s Orthodox Judaism. Complicating things is Anne’s emergence as an intellectual celebrity among the Hollywood movers and shakers that comprise their professional and social milieu.
