The Writing on My Forehead - Kepler's Staff Review

You must take some time and fall in love with the characters of Najisa Haji’s debut novel about Saira Qadar, and her family.  Saira is a rebellious teenager and a Muslim American of Indo-Pakistani descent.  Her family members, each have their own hopes and dreams for themselves and for Saira.  Our heroine does not want to find a husband and raise a family like her mother or sister. She wants to go to college, she wants to write and she wants to be a journalist.  The person she most admires is her spinster Aunt who teaches literature at Cambridge England.  Along the path to maturity Saira finds out how difficult it is to disappoint her family, how hard it is to follow her own dreams and how important family really is in the long run.   It is a coming of age story with a twist so powerful that it leaves you holding your breath.
