Kepler's 2020 Project in the News:
Disturbing. Engrossing. Mesmerizing. Do not let the book’s cover fool you into thinking this will be a sweet tale of adventure and first love. Fourteen year-old Symone has a fascination with the Antarctic and a passion for the renowned polar explorer, Captain Titus Oates. Through a series of unexpected and suspect events Sym finds herself embarking on an once-in-a-lifetime trip to the Antarctic with her “uncle” Victor. Victor, an eccentric genius who believes in a theory that the Earth is hollow and can be accessed via a hole located at the South Pole, has a plan for Symone that turns her dream trip into a nightmare of the most unbelievable intensity. This is one of those books that will forever haunt me. Vivid, frigid polar scenes will continue to chill me right to the core of my bones. The mad and unpredictable behavior of Victor and other members of the expedition that originally shocked will continue, I suspect, to provide material for my own nightmares. Powerful imagery, escalating terror and some of the most unique characters I have ever met will probably lure me into reading this one again. Michael L. Printz Award winner 2008
