Kepler's 2020 Project in the News:
When I picked up this book little did I realize that these were indeed Explosive tales - especially for the Tollins who get blown up as part of the secret ingredients in fireworks! But I get ahead of myself - first it is important to explain - what is a Tollin? Well, the easiest comparison is to fairies, except Tollins are bigger and less squishable than fairies, although both have wings and are invisible to grown-ups. Tollins are in fact, practically indestructible, which is lucky really considering that they routinely get blown up. While they survive, they do suffer some minor side-effects: the loss of wings (which grow back), a little temporary difficulty hearing what others say to them (due to the loud bang), and in one rather spectacular experience in a Catherine wheel, a complete inability to walk in a straight line! Inevitably, in time, enough is enough! One brave Tollin, by the name of Sparkler (which incidentally has nothing to do with fireworks) decides to delve into science to design fireworks that do not require Tollins as their secret ingredient. Wondrously, his love of science saves his volatile people from many perils! Reviewed by Antonia |
