Saving Cee Cee Honeycutt - Kepler's Staff Review

Okay, the title gives it away as another light but charming book set in the South. When 12 year old Cee Cee’s mentally ill mother is hit and killed by an ice cream truck, her nasty father sends her off to live with her great-aunt Tootie in Savannah. Tootie lives in the lap of luxury surrounded by her many eccentric friends and her faithful and wise cook, Oletta.

While the author could have taken on more with the underlying themes of racism and mental illness, sometime it’s nice to just sit back and be entertained without all the conflict. While a bit cliché, it’s still a lovely coming of age story filled with female wisdom.
