One Small Step - Kepler's Staff Review

Thirteen-year old Scott knows how to fly—jet airplanes that is. His dad trains fighter pilots and has secretly taught Scott whom he calls a natural “stick and rudder man.”  But when an in-flight emergency forces Scott to crash land a jet, something he’s never done before, their secret is discovered. Rather than court marshal his dad, the government strikes a deal with Scott.

It is 1968, in the midst of the cold war, and the government is racing towards their first moon-landing so that they get there before the Russians.  NASA has secretly planned to test-land a crew of chimps on the moon first before very publicly sending their star astronauts.  Failure is not an option.  So when one of their chimps becomes uncooperative; they are desperate for a small person to replace him.  Then a small boy crash lands a jet . . . . .  They have two months to turn Scott into an astronaut with all the detailed fearsome, gruesome training that that entails and all the manipulations and betrayals behind  a moon shot that must never be revealed!

This is a rocket- powered adventure that will keep you strapped down in your favorite reading space until Scot’s mission is over—one way or another.
