Kepler's 2020 Project in the News:
Cather beautifully depicts how the sense of place and the loss of it, defines the people. Jim Burden, the narrator, is a traveler, whose nostalgia is not the place but for Antonia, the daughter of the immigrants. Antonia is the woman he loved and wished to love as a lover, but didn't. Jim's Antonia embodies his home in the country, the fecundity of the land and the road not taken. The same road brought Jim and Antonia together again. It is the place that triggers the remembrance of the past experience. It is the road of memory. --Aggie Z. |
