At Kepler's we are struggling to remain a free and open forum for the speakers and ideas of our time. Independent bookstores have always been an unlikely venture, but this economy has made 2009 tremendously difficult. With e-book sales on the rise, more than ever, independent community bookstores are disappearing. If you value a space to meet, talk about ideas, hold a book in your hands and listen to great thinkers present their work, then this is the part where you save the day!

We are running a very tight ship--we pay our staff in meaningful work but not super-hero wages. Yet they remain heroically eager to meet you, to listen, to recommend fantastic books and provide great service. Buying your books from us and encouraging your friends to do so as well helps a great deal. But given the financial realities of publishing today, book sales are not enough to sustain a place like Kepler's in our community. Math is an unforgiving foe!

We do understand that you sometimes prefer a virtual bookstore so this year we took on the challenge of creating a new online store. Our mission was to make it as representative of the Kepler's experience as we could. Yes, you can buy an e-book here, but you can also see what we're reading and recommending. Leap right in and let us know what you think.
