Many Moons - Kepler's Staff Review

Princess Lenore, who is nearly eleven, has eaten too many raspberry tarts. She is ill and the only cure is her heart's desire...the moon. The king consults his wisest officials but each of them disappoints. The Lord High Chamberlain claims the moon is made of molten copper and impossible to get. Blue poodles, yes; The moon, no! The Royal Wizard claims the moon is made of green cheese and that he can fetch gold from the rainbow but he cannot pull the moon from the sky. The Royal Mathematician can calculate the price of priceless and the square of a hippopotamus but the moon (which he believes is made of asbestos) is out of the question. In the end it is the Court Jester and little Lenore who solve the problem that baffled all of the King's wisest men.

Thurber's clever text and Slobodkin's merry and subtle watercolors are beautifully paired. A gorgeous book and one of my absolute favorites.
