Magical Kids - Kepler's Staff Review

These adorable books are a charm--as in delightfully spellbinding.  Warm, witty, and genuinely funny they make an extraordinary vacation read aloud. A flip over two-sided book; start on whatever side you like.

On one side meet Josie Jenkins who when faced with a classmate who gets his head classically and solidly stuck between the bars in the school fence, feels a tingle in her body and a strong desire in her heart to save him.  She walks over and pulls those bars apart.  Her splendid rescue is met with great suspicion.  She is after all a rather tiny person.  But once Josie stops a runaway truck, lifts a bus, a horse and, well, many and outrageously funny items, her credentials are beyond reproof. She is indeed the strongest girl in the world!  Fame and fortune invite treachery, however, and a sleazy promoter contracts with her naïve family to exhibit Josie for great profit. Some sibling solidarity and a last splendid rescue save the day.

Flip the book over to meet Sam whose parents have won as surprise trip to . . . the Moon! His neighbor Hilda is taking care of him but what she really wants to care for is the life insurance money that came with the trip.  Sam longs for his parents' quick and safe return.  Hilda does not. Enter Splodge a small polka-dotted alien who can wield invisibility, but has trouble with English syntax.  I am certain delightful Splodge quotes will stay with my kids and theirs in turn.

I do hope you grab a child and grab this book and enjoy.  Until then all I can leave you to ponder is:

"I come in peas. Take me to your chef!"
