Love and Summer - Kepler's Staff Review

In the small town of Rathmoye, Ireland, there is a madman, Orpen Wren, who lives in many yesterdays. He is harmless, but somehow in his confusion of the present and the past, there exists a knowing. His ramblings at his chance encounters with Ellie, the young wife who has been situated into her marriage, Florian, the photographer she fancies, and Dillahan, Ellie’s husband, all seem to have moments of truth that speak directly to them.

William Trevor takes us down this path of a 1950’s summer tale of love in this celtic countryside, but the crags and thorns of life are there in plain view and we are the better for it. It is impossible not to devour every word of his splendid prose and want more.
