While Conroy may be more famous for Prince of Tides, The Lords of Discipline is just as fine a book in its own way. Will McLean is simultaneously a jock and an English major — two of the worst labels you can have at Carolina Military Institute in Charleston, a fictional military college based partially on Conroy’s own experiences at The Citadel. He has made it to his senior year and gained three friends who are like brothers to him.
