There are very few illustrators working today whose work I love as much as that of Graeme Base. His rich palette and fantastical style always leave me entranced, and The Legend of the Golden Snail does not disappoint. A young boy named Wilbur journeys off into his imagination, following the tale of his favorite book, and Base leads us on a seafaring adventure filled with pirates and mystical islands. Wilbur navigates the Slithering Sea and the Dreadful Doldrums, explores Butterfly Island, the Maze of Madness, and the Ends of the Earth, where the Golden Snail has been banished by a Great Enchanter. He has many adventures, but soon realizes that all is not as it seems.

An absolutely enchanting book.
