Kepler's 2020 Project in the News:
Men are fickle dressers. Unlike women they will rarely change their style, and the latest in knitting magazines that say things like “updated”, “fashionable” or the dreaded “hottest trend” will most likely make your man run for the hills. Bruce gives us our first real cure for the “sweater curse” by laying it out and giving us 10 rules for men’s knits. Most of it is common sense that we tend to forget when we start that bright red sweater (because it’s our guy’s favorite color), with the complicated stitch pattern (to keep us from falling asleep at the needles), and the black stripe we added (to give it contrast). Starting by reminding us that “men can’t fake it”, and ending it with the wise words “when in doubt, make him something basic”. Pick this book up and you will also find that every pattern is written with multiple gauges, yarns and needle sizes in mind so that you can make anything from a sweater, to a hat, to socks with your favorite tools. I find this book a treasure for its ability to make me do a reality check with what gift I make my boyfriend and that I can always find the right pattern for the yarn I have in mind. |
