The Irresistible Henry House - Kepler's Staff Review

Back in the 1940’s, it was not uncommon in home economics courses to have a “practice house” where young women were taught that everything could be learned in a scientific way, including motherhood. An orphaned baby would be brought into the house and a series of practice mothers rotated in on a weekly basis.

This is the story of one of those orphans. Because of his many mothers, as he grows up, he is unable to form any true close bonds or emotional attachments. Because he was lied to, he has a difficult time learning to trust and to love.

Though this is a work of fiction, the facts are fascinating. Anyone following those practices today would be convicted of abuse.
