Ruth and Dana are “birthday sisters,” born on the same day in a rural New Hampshire hospital to two very different families. As they grow up, Ruth becomes a romantic and a dreamer, honing her skills as an artist, while Dana is a scientist drawn to the farmlands. Neither ever feels comfortable in her own family.
