Kepler's 2020 Project in the News:
The Food of a Younger Land is a wallop of a great read; it has everything but the kitchen sink, which you might not need anyway! But let me back up a bit…Mark Kurlansky, who writes about food and history, dug up the unpublished WPA project on regional American food, dusted it off, selected a variety of the original essays, now published in The Food of a Younger Land. There is no “proper” way to read this collection: I just dove in sampling different regions of food, styles of writing and original recipes. The authors are proud, tetchy, and territorial about their foods and customs, which provides humor all the way through. There are chowder wars, Lutke Fish essays, wild animal recipes and gatherings of folks intent on a good feast.
Are you up for an adventure? Try out some of the recipes – I plan to!
