I was blown away by this book. Simple, everyday living by a local parapalegic, living in my own neighborhood. It is told with honesty, dignity and self deprecating humor.
This picture book introduces several different concepts without actually seeming to be particularly didactic!
Once upon a time in a gathering storm a raindrop was born and began to fall. At first the raindrop was exhilarated, thinking he could fly. Then he had a terrible thought, a realization, that perhaps it was not flying, but falling. And then the fear set in. What would happen? Would it crash? What would become of the raindrop? How would it end?
As it draws further to earth the raindrop sees a campfire directly below, right in its path, getting bigger and bigger until the raindrop crashed into it.
But that isn't the end. The fire turns the raindrop into a wisp of steam. The steam rises. The raindrop is reborn.
It really isn't many books that can illustrate scientific processes, comfort children about the fear of the unknown, and address worries about change. Sometimes, wonderful things can happen when life seems most bleak
