This interactive town hall-style meeting provides a frank, unscripted discussion about how to break the gridlock which prevents us from solving our greatest threats: terrorism, a worldwide recession, the rapid depletion of the earth’s resources, climate change, pandemic viruses, rising crime, obesity and declining education.   Featuring two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, Dr. Edward O. Wilson, the panel includes Rebecca D. Costa, provocative author of  The Watchman’s Rattle, and Dr. Michael M. Merzenich, professor emeritus of neuroscience at UCSF and founder of Posit Science. The discussion will be moderated by Stanford lecturer in environmental communications, best-selling author and former Newsweek and US News & World Report journalist, Thomas Hayden.

Inspired by Costa’s book, this innovative Rattler Tour brings leading experts, thought leaders and pioneers in the fields of economics, science, education, entertainment, business and politics directly to the public for the purpose of a “no-holds-barred” discussion.

Costa is a former CEO and founder of Silicon Valley start-up, Dazai Advertising, Inc. (sold to J. Walter Thompson in 1997), whose clients have included Apple Computer, Applied Materials, Oracle Corporation, 3M, Amdahl, United TeleCom, and General Electric Corporation. She attributes her natural ability to spot global patterns to a cross-cultural education and upbringing. She graduated from UC Santa Barbara, with a BA in Social Sciences, and earned an MBA from Santa Clara University.

Forward by E.O. Wilson. Regarded as one of the world’s preeminent biologists and naturalists, Edward O. Wilson spent his boyhood exploring the region’s forests and swamps, collecting snakes, butterflies, and ants—the latter to become his lifelong specialty. He is a professor at Harvard and the author of more than twenty books, including the Pulitzer Prize-winning The Ants and The Naturalist as well as his first novel Anthill.
