Whine and Wine: Post-Election Group Therapy

Featured guests:

  • Charles Postel, Professor of History, San Francisco State University
  • Paul J. Marcille, Ph.D., President-Elect of the California Psychological Association (CPA)

Has this year's election taken an immense emotional toll on you? You have a lot of unhappy company. One Washington DC clinical psychologist told The Atlantic he's treating higher levels of concern and dismay in his clients than he's seen in 25 years, all centered on the election. For a lot of us, anxiety about the country's identity and direction will long outlast the election itself.

In Deep's first show after the election will let you vent your feelings, and perhaps come away with ways to cope and conquer. "Whine and Wine" is our first show to feature our audience as the primary guests, with political and cognitive psychologists on hand to comment and help process. We'll explore comparable events in history and in other countries. We'll probe the potential for turning angst into action - or at least ways to quiet the demons!

And as our show title implies, we'll have wine, coffee, tea, and snacks for you - because odds are, we'll all need the comfort.

Doesn't matter who you voted for - we're all in this together. Join us for a nosh, a sip, and a good-natured group therapy session, November 9th at 12 noon.

Charles Postel is an historian of political thought and social movements. His study of the Populist movement of the 1890s, The Populist Vision (Oxford, 2007), received the Bancroft Prize and the Frederick Jackson Turner Award. He has taught at UC Berkeley, Sacramento State University, and the University of Heidelberg (Germany).

Dr. Paul Marcille has a private psychology practice in Palo Alto and is Director of Undergraduate Programs and a Professor at Palo Alto University.
