Featured Guest:

Renee Lertzman,  Environmental Melancholia: Psychoanalytic Dimensions of Engagement

Environmental awareness has its costs. Mental health pros have seen an upturn in "environmental depression” or “eco-anxiety” — feelings of helplessness, concern and sadness growing along with and individual's climate and pollution awareness.

Meanwhile, environmental priorities stand on uneven ground. Gallup polls show nearly half of Americans believe ecological concerns are overblown; at the same time, fully half prioritize environmental policy over the economy.

How do business and government navigate this rocky terrain? Writer, teacher, and consultant Renee Lertzman helps create strategies for these and other stakeholders, including philanthropic concerns. In her book Environmental Melancholia: Psychoanalytic Dimensions of Engagement, Lertzman applies psychoanalytic theory and psychosocial research to the issue of public engagement and public apathy in response to chronic ecological threats.

Renee Lertzman  is a consultant, lecturer and writer, and has written extensively on the intersections of psychology, environment, and culture. Her writing has appeared in The Sun Magazine, Orion Magazine, The Ecologist, Climate Access, DeSmog Blog, Sustainable Brands, and Sightline. She's also is regularly commissioned to produce research for foundations and research institutions, including the Skoll Global Threats Fund and the University College London’s Climate Sciences Communications Policy Commission. She speaks and consults internationally. She is working on her new book, The Myth of Apathy: Unleashing our Power to Heal and Transform our World.
