Introduction by Judge (ret.) Len Edwards

Rainbows Over Kapa'a describes the special town on the Hawaiian Island, Kaua'i, where Bill Fernandez, retired judge from Santa Clara County, was born and raised in the 30s and 40s. His engaging memoir reveals the local lifestyle tourists don't notice. Once you read it, you will understand the people in the islands much better. Bill's youth in Kapa'a taught him the values of hard work, honesty, and frugalness as his family and the townspeople were all strugglling to survive as small farmers and shop owners.

After graduating from Stanford University and its law school, Bill practiced law in Sunnyvale, where he served on the city council and as its mayor. Values of cooperation and appreciation for varied peoples and cultures impacted his career as a judge in California. One of his cases became nationally prominent as he decided in favor a child's right to live when the child's parents refused surgery.

Generous with his time and work, Bill is active in civic and Hawaiian organizations and is an honoree of the Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce of Northern California because of his efforts to bring Hawaiian cultural teachers to California.
