Playwriting Workshop with Carol Wolf
Saturday, February 23rd 10:00 a.m. - noon
AND
Sunday, February 24th 1-4pm
Have you
ever wanted to write a play? This 2-part workshop is designed to teach
beginning, and some intermediate and advanced, playwriting techniques through
intense lecture, demonstration, experimentation and discussion.
Students
will test their beginning playwriting techniques by writing a 3-5 page play
between sessions. In the second session on Sunday, we will do staged readings of the
plays, and use them as the starting point to discuss intermediate and advanced
playwriting techniques.
At the
conclusion of the workshop, students will be prepared to write additional,
longer plays that are producible and will work in the theater. They will have a
skill set for trouble-shooting their work, and a series of techniques they can
depend on to seize and sustain the audience's attention.
In
addition, students will have a new insight into how plays work, when they are
working, and what to look for when they are not, in their own plays as well as
others', and by extension, films, television, books and other storytelling
media as well.
Instructor Bio: Carol Wolf is an award-winning playwright and drama
instructor. She earned a degree in history at Mills College and an MFA in
