I was blown away by this book. Simple, everyday living by a local parapalegic, living in my own neighborhood. It is told with honesty, dignity and self deprecating humor.
Billie SanGreal is the youngest and only female
member of the Knights Templar. Her father is distant, she spends her
time training to fight, and her friend Kay didn't stay in touch when he
went away to Jerusalem. Now a powerful oracle, he's back but Billie is
still mad at him - and then she meets Michael, who comes to help her in a
fight on a train and seems to understand her grievances against her
father and her life in general. She'd like time with friends, a normal
life, that sort of thing.
But this is no typical love triangle.
Billie is called into action. There's a cursed mirror, an ancient enemy,
a lot of fighting, and the need for sacrifice. It's so action packed
that you sometimes have to pause for breath as Billie, angry and
vehement, battles for humanity, doing the right thing despite the cost.
Chadda weaves together Christian, Jewish, and Muslim folk stories in a
way rarely seen. It's dark, gritty, plausible, and you can't help but
cheer as Billie rises to the challenges of her destiny. --Angela M.
