Darkwood - Kepler's Staff Review

In Howland there are two great fears: the darkness and the kinderstalk. There is  no twilight. One minute, it's day and the next instant, there is complete and utter darkness. And in the dark, a menace emerges from the woods to snatch children: the kinderstalk. Annie has lived in Howland, petrified of the dark and the kinderstalk, her whole life. However, when she overhears her uncle making plans to sell her to be a miner, she realizes that the forest after dark is her only chance of escape.

When Annie finds out that everything she believes is not true, she begins to have hope for her future. But her plans may all turn upside down when she is, for the  second time, plunged into the forest at night. Only this time, her worst fear may not be the kinderstalk. This novel made my heart beat faster. I was rooting for Annie from the start, and my attachment to her grew exponentially throughout the  book. My hope is that there is a sequel - soon!
