The Confessions of Max Tivoli - Kepler's Staff Review

Imagine a life where you are born looking like an old man, but with the thoughts and emotions of a new born. Imagine aging chronologically as you physically get younger. How do you fit into society? Do you confide in anyone? Max has only one real friend. And then he meets the love of his life. The first time Max meets her she is 14 and he looks like an old man. He runs into her again when they look about the same age, and Max has to become another person in order to marry her. Their lives intersect a third time when he looks like a 12-year-old and he changes again to become her adopted son.

Beautifully written, this is a story of obsession, or Great Romance, of finding out who you are and what is most important to you.  Set mostly in San Francisco, Victorian in tone, it takes us through events like the earthquake of 1906 and the first world war. Max is not necessarily a character to like but someone whom you will remember.  --Angela M.
