Committed - Kepler's Staff Review

Marriage, what's it all about?  This is quite a subject to take on, but the author is confronted with it as she and her beloved Brazilian boyfriend, Felipe, are forced into exile (traveling in Southeast Asia), until he is cleared by Homeland Security.  The only way for him to enter the US is if they marry, so they wander for nine months waiting for Felipe to be "...granted the elusive golden ticket of a fiancé visa."   Since both have had to survive bitter divorces, they had planned to avoid being wedded at all costs.   Now, circumstances have changed and as they travel the world on their odyssey, the author begins to examine the different takes on marriage along the way.

I found myself very much caught up in the adventure of this couple, and the struggle of the author to come to terms with the upcoming nuptials.   The research sections, however, slow the story somewhat and would have done better if they were honed and edited.   Nonetheless, the author's voice, that lovely, funny, self-deprecating voice that we all enjoyed in Eat, Pray, Love, is alive and well in Committed and is steady throughout the book.
