Kepler's 2020 Project in the News:
Everyone knows the scenario: child brings pet home, begs to keep it, promises to take care of it, swears to never ask for anything else ever again. This is what happens when Lucy brings Squeaker home, only Lucy is a bear and Squeaker is a boy. "Lucille Beatrice Bear! Don't you know that children make terrible pets?" exclaims Momma Bear.
At first, all is well. Lucy and Squeaker do everything together: eating, napping, playing. But soon Lucy learns that a pet is a lot of work and "not all fun and games." She is discovering how difficult pets can be when Squeaker disappears. Lucy is devastated! She searches high and low for her dear pet and finally finds him back at his own home where he has his own family and just "doesn't seem like a pet anymore."
Peter Brown delivers another clever, comical book. It will have children and parents wondering what animals think when we make pets of them. The illustrations are true Peter Brown--imaginative yet simple, a story all on their own.
