Kepler's 2020 Project in the News:
This series is a shining example of how flipping awesome Urban Fantasy can be. It takes place in an alternate timeline where ghosts are absolutely real and absolutely deadly. Chess Putnam is one of the few people who can banish the restless dead under the new authority of the Church. This is no regular Church though – all religions were abandoned after the spirit epidemic, and only facts are worshipped in this new world. Chess, however, has made some profoundly bad decisions. She has a crippling addiction, lives in the “Downside,” and has put herself amid the interests of some very bad people. The series balances the action-packed nature of urban fantasy with strong, serious character development. Characters grow at a natural pace, and you can’t help wanting to see what they’re going to do next. I can’t stress enough how compulsively readable this series is. I counted down the days until each new book came out, and I’m thrilled that the series will continue beyond the original plan for a trilogy. Kane is an author to watch, and Chess Putnam is one hell of a character to read. --Sarah L. |
