Kepler's 2020 Project in the News:
In 1831 a young clergyman and amateur naturalist is given the opportunity to join a voyage across the seas with the Royal Navy on a survey mission to South America. Charles Darwin jumped at this opportunity and he joined the crew of The Beagle as a Naturalist. The 19th Century was a time of great study in the natural sciences. Darwin was excited to be part of this adventure as he found geology, zoology, and botany all fascinating. In the five-year voyage of The Beagle he collected and studied thousands of specimens. This wondrously illustrated book allows us to travel and discover with the young Charles. It's presents passages from Darwin's and diaries, letters from his journey; maps and diagrams of specimens collected. It's just the perfect way to introduce the work of Charles Darwin to children. It was, of course, the voyage described in this book where Darwin began to formulate new ideas about the beginnings of life on earth which changed his life path from that of clergyman to scientist. Many years later he published two seminal works of science: The Origin of the Species and The Descent of Man - both of which were highly controversial at the time, and remain so in some parts of the world.
