Kepler's 2020 Project in the News:
Broken
was my first Karin Slaughter, and it won't be my last. I'd heard a lot
about this author, and I'd always been intrigued by the devotion of her
fans. Broken
picks up after the death of a town's beloved sheriff, leaving a
shattered police force to go on as best they can. In the middle of what
is already a bad situation, a college student is found murdered, a
young officer is wounded, and the prime suspect manages to do himself
in. It all sounds more tangled than it actually is, but what makes the
story shine is its sheer humanity. The mystery is enjoyable, but what
really kept me reading was the profound depth of the characters.
It's always a pleasure to find an author who is a master of her craft, and I highly recommend Karin Slaughter to anyone who has gotten tired of the cardboard characters running rampant in mystery fiction. -- Sarah L. |
