Kepler's 2020 Project in the News:
There is constant extreme danger and exquisite beauty, sometimes simultaneously. Of course there is absolute darkness; as well as roaring waterfalls, venomous snakes, vampire bats, freezing water, extreme wind and crashing rocks, equipment failure, and deadly mistakes. Enter into the depths of supercaving and discover a world so alien and difficult, that it becomes hard to believe the possibility of surviving this remaining frontier of exploration.
Tabor follows two different teams of supercave exploration, one led by the brilliant, obsessively driven American, Bill Stone and the other team guided by equally talented Ukrainian, Alexander Klimchouk. They are racing to discover the deepest cave on earth and each has devoted decades to this quest. Stone is targeting the Cheve cave system in Southern Mexico while Klimchouk is focused on deadly Krubera Cave in the Republic of Georgia--cave systems that are as different and fascinating as the team leaders. Reaching the final push of depth will be only half the battle. They know they must return back up those treacherous routes to surface into light. The effort demands an intensity of focus and a level of fitness and skill, and a dominant desire to explore these depths of subterranean life that few can muster. This book has wonderful photos, a wealth of caving history, extensive notes and is riveting reading! |
