Kepler's 2020 Project in the News:
In beautiful prose, the second of Charlotte Bronte’s secret adventures is
revealed. It is 1851. Three years have
passed since Charlotte first met British spy John Slade, and she has not seen
him since he traveled to Russia for his next assignment. In a cruel twist of
fate her literary career has taken flight at a time when she has few with whom
to share her success--only her father and the memories of her brief acquaintance
with John Slade to keep her company.
Then
on a trip to visit her London publisher, Charlotte is shocked to glimpse Slade
locked in the ward for the criminally insane of Bethlem Royal Hospital-Bedlam.
Showing her usual impulsiveness and determination, Charlotte attempts to rescue
Slade but ends up in her own dire trouble as an inmate in Newgate Prison accused
of multiple murders. The Queen intervenes and Charlotte finds herself
increasingly trapped in the treacherous world of espionage where friends and
alliances are uncertain and momentary. Violence stalks her as the path to
rescuing both herself and Slade from the gallows turns into the pursuit of a
madman with a devastating weapon.
