Besides being a wonderful present for bird enthusiasts, I would hihgly recommend giving The Backyard Birdsong Guide to children.  Initially drawn in by the sheer fun of listening to the dozens of Western North American bird calls, they (and their parents) will eagerly devour the accompanying illustrations and descriptions.  Truly, this book will entertain and educate all ages.  Check out also the Eastern North America and World birdsong guides.
