Kepler's 2020 Project in the News:
Let me not to the marriage of true minds Admit impediments. Love is not love Which alters when it alteration finds, Or bends with the remover to remove. from Shakespeare’s Sonnet 116
Whether composed by Shakespeare or Robert Frost, sonnets intimidate readers with their compression and complex structures; thus, there are no shortcuts for understanding and appreciating their complexities. The Art of the Sonnet, however, makes this learning process interesting through a dynamic compilation of poetry and criticism. Stephen Burt and David Mikics—two scholars and critics trained in Renaissance literature—have carefully selected one hundred of their favorite sonnets in addition to providing essays to accompany each. Their scholarship convincingly illustrates the symbiotic relationship between poetry and criticism, and how each enhances the other. The Art of the Sonnet makes a great gift for serious poetry readers. --Todd |
