Kepler's 2020 Project in the News:
The poetry of Robert Hass appeals to me for its nuanced way of describing colors—not unlike the work of a talented painter: the insides of peaches are the color of sunrise
the outside of plums are the color of dusk
This poet’s imagery is not static; rather, his colors and imagery emerge in a sensual and dynamic way—this skill is also rendered in how the portraits of his characters emerge through their intertwined relationships with both the human and natural world. With twenty new poems as well as poetry from his 5 previous books, this most recent volume is an excellent introduction to his complex work, but also a great choice for those who want to survey the entire opus of his long career. Hass has won numerous awards, including both the National Book Award and the 2008 Pulitzer Prize. He has served as Poet Laureate of the United States from 1995-1997 and is a noted critic, translator, and professor at UC Berkeley. |
